Bilingual preschools in Paris

Alternative and caring nursery chool

Douces Maternelles is an alternative option for a child’s education, combining elements from the Nordic children’s “gardens” and “classic” nursery schools inspired by active pedagogies (Montessori and Reggio Emilia). Its goal is to welcome each child between 2 and 6 in an individualized and caring fashion.

Our nursery schools are private, non-religious and bilingual French/English.

By balancing ideas about schooling with a rich space for learning about life, at Douces Maternelles our general philosophy follows that found in the “gardens” for children in Scandinavia, where everything is designed to allow children to develop their self-confidence, autonomy, sense of responsibility and love of learning.

In respecting the principle of shared education, we hold dear the mission of helping parents bring together their personal and professional lives.

English-French bilingualism

We are also convinced of the need to teach and learn a foreign language such as English early. In fact, it is between the ages of 3 and 4 that the ear and the brain are most able to learn and retain a new language.

A growing network of preschools in Paris

It is with this in mind that the first school in our network opened in September 2016 in the center of Paris (21 rue du Petit Musc, 75004 Paris) and the second one in October 2017 (9 rue Crillon, 75004 Paris).

New schools will soon open : Douce Maternelle Saint-Michel (opening January 2020), Douce Maternelle Broca (opening September 2020).

How our nursery schools work

  • Small classes, with 8/12 students for each adult ; there will also be gatherings of 16 students in the morning and evening, with other smaller workshops of 8/12 students during the day (these workshops concentrate on creative skills, art, language, motor skills, story time, cooking, philosophy and other activities);
  • The school is bilingual, with French and English being used for equal amounts of time. English and French are used in fun ways throughout the daily routine.
  • Distinctive teaching methods based upon the principles of famed educators such as Montessori and Reggio Emilia approach…

A child who has self-confidence is a child who succeeds.

By loving one’s school, it’s possible to learn while having fun.
